In Which We Do a Vlog

Hello friends and fellow bibliophiles! Today we're going to break the trend and have a different kind of post. Junior B is back with another vlog interview! We filmed this yesterday morning in my bedroom where many of the blog posts are written. :)

We hope you enjoy this little hiatus from articles and book reviews!

P.S. I referenced a quote in the interview, that, by popular request, I will post here. :)

There is no way to peace along the way of safety. For peace must be dared, it is itself the great venture and can never be safe. Peace is the opposite of security. To demand guarantees is to want to protect oneself. Peace means giving oneself completely to God’s commandment, wanting no security, but in faith and obedience laying the destiny of the nations in the hand of Almighty God, not trying to direct it for selfish purposes. Battles are won, not with weapons, but with God. They are won when the way leads to the cross.
~Dietrich Bonhoeffer

  4. Oh, I just LOVE your vlogs! They are always a heap of fun - I would do ones too if I wasn't too nervous about showing my face in the public web. Maybe I will do a vlog and keep it on private settings and email my friends invitations though because they sound like so much fun!!!

You are so pretty, Schuyler - I don't think I've told you that before, but you are! Lol, and I never quite knew how to pronounce your name; I always pronounced it as SchUyler rather than SchuYler ;) - wow, you've got Scottish and Dutch blood in you! That's pretty amazing - they are two countries I really love in their history/heritage, etc. We had an older Dutch Christian lady we knew in a small town we lived in some years ago, and she taught my sisters and me machine knitting and sewing, and lots of delightful Dutch culture/stories! And of course, I am partial to Scotland ;).

That quote by Dietrich Bonhoeffer is so powerful and beautiful. I've heard the first part of the quote before, but not the second half so I will definitely have to find the full one. It is also powerful in context of his life, isn't it!

Hehe, I would want to be Samwise Gamgee too!! :D And what... NO! Desolation of Smaug wasn't all that bad with the changes (I insist they weren't changes but additions which, by the way, if you read Unfinished Tales, etc can be found in Tolkien's other writings for the most part). I personally thought DOS great ;). Please don't cry, and give us a chance, precious, give us a chance!!!

    1. Thank-you so much, Joy! I'm really glad you liked it. :D We have a lot of fun and laughter putting it together, and try to capture some of that on camera.

Hehe, yes, my name is challenging to pronounce simply by spelling, and I answer to several different pronunciations. I am very proud of my two heritages, and so glad that I can claim them personally. :)

That's so neat that you had a Dutch lady to teach you some of those homemaking skills! My mom taught me machine sewing, and our whole family tackled knitting and figured it out together. I've never done machine knitting, though.

I'm going to put the Bonhoeffer quote up on the blog post since it's been a popular request!

Oh, I had great fun watching DoS, I assure you, even though some of it I couldn't help chuckling at. But I'll give PJ a chance, precious, I will. :P I think he's going to create an awesome third movie, and I have every expectation that it will be fully satisfactory.

If it's any comfort, I really liked Legolas, and I thought Tauriel wasn't nearly as bad as everyone was making her out. I've typed up a review--would you like it by any chance?

      Love,
      Schuyler

  6. Loved this vlog, Schuyler. You had me laughing. Very fun. Always enjoy appearances of Junior B. as well. :)
When I pulled up your blog just now, I went "Oooh, nice! She posted that quote!" I, too, loved it. Is that from The Cost of Discipleship? I hope to order that book soon--it's been on my list ever since you reviewed it in 2012.

    You're such an angel. :P :D

    1. Glad we could give you a good laugh! :D

I do not know if the quote is from The Cost of Discipleship; I don't think so. In the FoF drama, it was placed in a speech Bonhoeffer made at an international church conference. I don't remember the place, but I wonder if it was in that speech he gave. I would have to read Metaxas' book on Bonhoeffer again, because I think that would tell me.

You'll love Cost of Discipleship! Such a rich, excellent book; it shaped a lot of my thinking on what it means to be a follower of Jesus. And you should check out Metaxas' book on Bonhoeffer sometime, too. :)

      I know. :P **angel**

  7. Wonderful vlog! It is so nice to see your face now and then. : )
I loved the question about which fictional character you would be. I think I would have a hard time choosing, but I bet you could guess a couple I might want to be. ; ) Sam is a pretty good choice though....
Thanks again, I loved it all!

    1. It's been a while, hasn't it? :D We really need to have a face-to-face meeting again, with room for a good chat. You saw my face, but I didn't get to see yours in return! But it was fun to shoot the vlog and remember that you would be able to picture the rest of the room we were in. :)

I might be able to guess a couple. ;) Someday we shall be able to mention them freely, because they will be published and out for the world to see...

I forgot about W** characters, but I would love to be some of them. And in your stories there are one or two which I wouldn't mind being as well. ;)

      Love,
      Schuyler

  8. Wonderfully done!!! I have to admit that I laughed very hard in my mind but not in my throat. I didn't want to attract to much attention.( by the way, I didn't laugh at the real Q & A, only at the Bloopers ;D ) I loved the quote. I haven't really had a favorite quote.... but that was one of the best! Love you Schuyler!!!

    1. I'm glad you laughed!! We didn't have a ton of bloopers to choose from, but I do admit I hoped there would be some, and just prayed that the Lord would direct it all so we could do a good video and give a good laugh at the same time. :)

      Love you too!! :)
